EVAPCO Extra-Pak Ice Coils

High-efficiency ice coils for thermal energy storage systems using field-built concrete tanks.

Rating: 5.0 / 5

EVAPCO Extra-Pak® ice coils are designed for large thermal energy storage systems using field-built concrete tanks. The coils are fabricated from high-quality steel and hot-dip galvanized after assembly for corrosion resistance and long service life.

The ice-on-coil process forms cylinders of ice around tubes submerged in water. At night, the refrigeration system builds ice during off-peak utility periods; during the day, the stored ice melts to cool the building and reduce peak electrical demand. Extra-Pak® elliptical tubes improve packing density and heat-transfer surface, increasing storage capacity within a compact tank volume.

  • Reduced energy cost by shifting electrical demand to off-peak periods.
  • Higher packing density from elliptical tubes.
  • More than 20% additional ice surface for heat transfer.
  • Hot-dip galvanized after complete assembly.
  • Each coil is tested twice under water.
  • Suitable for new construction and retrofit projects.
  • Designed and manufactured to ASME B31.5.
  • 0.060-inch tube wall thickness.
  • Underwater pressure testing at 400 psig.
  • Chilled-water temperature from 1.1 to 5.5 °C.
  • Counter-current circuiting.
  • Installed in field-built concrete tanks.
